"Neither do they. That's the problem. They can never be sure if they've done enough - enough praying, fasting, giving to the poor, making pilgrimages. They can never know. Ask them, and they will admit that. Hindus can never know how many hundreds of lifetimes it may take to successfully work out their karma. Buddhist can never know how much effort it will take to reach nirvana."
