Assuarance of salvation - part 1Christianity/Meditation 2004. 5. 4. 19:26
summary of chapter 13 of "Gospel for Real Life, Jerry Bridges, NavPress, 2002"
Why?
- God wants us to know it. (1John 5:13)
How?
- The promises of His Word
- The witness of the Spirit in our hearts
- The transforming work of the Spirit in our lives
1. The Promises of God
Do not focus on us but on the gracious promises
Ask "Do I believe the promises of God?"
Do not ask "Do I have faith?"
- Come, all you who are thirsty, come to the waters;
and you who have no money, com buy and eat!
Come, buy wine and milk without money and without cost (Isa 55:1)
- The Spirit and the bride say, 'Come!'
Whoever is thirsty, let him come;
and whoever wishes, let him take the free gift of the water of life (Rev 22:17)
- All that the Father gives me will come to me,
and whoever comes to me I will never drive away (Jn 6:37)
- Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved (Rom 10:13)
