Because God Loves Me (1Co 13:4-8)

Because God loves me, He is slow to lose patience with me.

Because God loves me, He takes the circumstances of my life and uses    
    them in a constructive way for my growth.

Because God loves me, He does not treat me as an object to be 
    possessed and manipulated.     

Because God loves me, He has no need to impress me with how great      
    and powerful He is because He is God, nor does He belittle me
    as His child in order to show me how important He is.

Because God loves me, He is for me. He wants to see me mature            
    and develop in His love.

Because God loves me, He does not send down His wrath on every little
    mistake I make, of which there are many.
         
Because God loves me, He does not keep score of all my sins and then    
    beat me over the head with them whenever He gets the chance.        

Because God loves me, He is deeply grieved when I do not walk in the   
    ways that please Him because He sees this as evidence that I don't      
    trust Him and love Him as I should.

Because God loves me, He rejoices when I experience His power and
    strength and stand up under the pressures of life for His Name's sake.

Because God loves me, He keeps on working patiently with me, even when
   I feel like giving up and can't see why He doesn't give up with me, too.         
Because God loves me, He keeps on trusting me when at times I don't even
   trust myself.        

Because God loves me, He never says there is no hope for me; rather, He
    patiently works with me, loves me and disciplines me in such a way that it
    is hard for me to understand the depth of His concern for me.
        
Because God loves me, He never forsakes me, even though many of my
   friends might.        

Because God loves me, He stands with me when I have reached the rock
   bottom of despair, when I see the real me and compare that with His
   righteousness, holiness, beauty, and love. It is at a moment like this that I
   can really believe that God loves me.

Yes, the greatest of all gifts is God's perfect love!

하나님께서 나를 사랑하시기 때문에, 

나에 대하여 오래 참으신다. 

하나님께서 나를 사랑하시기 때문에, 

내 인생의 환경들을 나의 성장을 위해 건설적으로 사용하신다.

하나님께서 나를 사랑하시기 때문에, 

소유되고 조종되어야 할 대상으로 나를 대하시지 않는다.

하나님께서 나를 사랑하시기 때문에 

그리고 그분은 하나님이시기 때문에, 

자신이 얼마나 위대하고 능력이 있는 분인지 

나에게 감명을 주려고 하실 필요가 없다.

또한 하나님께서는 자신이 얼마나 중요한지 보여주시기 위해 

그분의 자녀인 나를 하찮게 여기시지도 않는다.

하나님께서 나를 사랑하시기 때문에, 

나를 위해 계시며 내가 그분의 사랑 가운데 

성숙하고 발전하는 모습을 보기 원하신다.

하나님께서 나를 사랑하시기 때문에, 

내가 범하는 그토록 많은 작은 실수들 위에 

그분의 분노를 쏟아 붇지 않는다.

하나님께서 나를 사랑하시기 때문에, 

내 모든 죄들을 일일이 세고 계시지 않으며 

기회 있을 때마다 내 머리를 때리려 하시지도 않는다.

하나님께서 나를 사랑하시기 때문에, 

내가 만일 그분이 기뻐하시는 길을 

걷지 않으면 심히 슬퍼하신다. 

왜냐하면 하나님께서는 그것을 내가 마땅히 해야 하는 만큼 

그분을 사랑하고 신뢰하지 않는다는 증거로 보시기 때문이다.

하나님께서 나를 사랑하시기 때문에, 

내가 그분의 힘과 능력을 경험하고 

그분의 이름을 위해 핍박을 견딜 때 기뻐하신다.

하나님께서 나를 사랑하기 때문에, 

내가 포기하고 싶다고 느끼고 

하나님이 왜 나를 포기하시지 않는지 알 수 없을 때조차도 

인내하시며 나와 더불어 일하신다.

하나님께서 나를 사랑하시기 때문에, 

내가 나 자신을 신뢰하지 않을 때조차도 나를 신뢰해 주신다.

하나님께서 나를 사랑하시기 때문에, 

내게 희망이 없다고 결코 말씀하지 않으시며, 

이해하기 어려울 정도로 나에 대해 깊은 관심을 가지고 

나를 사랑하시며 훈련시키신다.

하나님께서 나를 사랑하시기 때문에, 

비록 나의 많은 친구들은 나를 버릴지라도 나를 버리시지 않는다.

하나님께서 나를 사랑하시기 때문에, 

내가 절망의 바닥에 떨어질 때라도 나와 함께 해 주신다.

내가 진정한 나를 보고, 

그것을 하나님의 의로우심과 아름다우심과 사랑과 비교할 때, 

바로 그때 그분이 나를 사랑해 주신다는 것을 믿을 수 있게 된다.

그렇다. 

모든 선물 중에 가장 큰 선물은 하나님의 완전하신 사랑이다.

고린도전서 13장은 진정한 사랑이란 무엇인가를 설명한다. 

사도 바울은 고린도 교회의 은사주의가 가져온 문제점을 해결하기 위해 고린도전서 12장에서 성령의 은사에 대해 설명하며, 

13장 앞부분에서 은사가 중요하지만 은사는 사랑이 없으면 아무 소용이 없다고 이야기한다. 

그리고 4절부터 8절까지 진정한 사랑이란 무엇인가를 설명하고 있다. 

이 때 사랑은 다른 사람에 대한 사랑이지만, 

Dick Dickinson은 이 완전한 사랑에 대한 설명을, 하나님의 우리에 대한 사랑의 관점에서 다시 썼다. 

개인적으로 이 구절들을 묵상하면서 

하나님의 사랑에 대해 더 깊이 이해하고, 

하나님의 사랑 안에서 내 자신을 용납하고 사랑하는 것을 배우는데 큰 도움을 받았다. 

다른 형제들도 하나님의 나를 향하신 개인적인 사랑이 어떠한지 묵상하며 큰 은혜를 누리기를 기도한다.
